For centuries, Dresden, called the Florence on the Elbe river, has been renowned for the beauty of its buildings and the wealth of art collections. Dresden's biggest attraction is a baroque complex that has been home to Zwinger Gallery displaying paintings of Dutch, German and Italian masters such as the Sixtin Madonna by Rafael as well as paintings by Tizian, Canaletto, Lucas Cranach the elder, the Flemmish Masters, and many others. As for the later history, Dresden became symbol of the destructions of WW-II when, on the night of 15th February 1945, sufferred from thousands of Allied Bombers, during a giant air-raide and almost ceased to exist. Despite these apokalyptic damages, Dresden rose again, just like the legendary "Fenix from the ashes". Following the tour of Zwinger, we will stroll through the complex of the Chateau, the churche of Virgin Mary, and see the "Frauenkirche" that was completely destroyed during the war and rebuilt as late as in the early nineties to its original shape. After the guided tour of this charming area, you'll have some time off to do some shopping or having a lunch. As an option (instead of strolling the town individually), we can visit a nearby, 18th Century baroque, Moritzburg castle that is located on a large lake; the castle is surrounded by a beautifull French style garden. We should leave Dresden by about 4:00 PM (depending on morning departure from Prague).
